Life is fleeting. Photos and paintings can preserve these special moments and memories. Captured Moments: Stories on Canvas is a collection of representational narrative oil paintings that invite viewers to step into the heart of a scene and explore the lives of its characters. Each piece captures a fleeting moment – a glance, a gesture, or an expression – that tells its own story while sparking curiosity about the untold details. Through expressive portraits and scenes, these paintings create space for the viewer to imagine: What thoughts lie behind a gaze: What feelings lingers in the quiet moments: This exhibit embraces the beauty of narrative art, allowing each viewer to connect with and interpret the stories woven into every brushstroke.
Artist Biography
Originally from Philadelphia, Shelley attended Tyler School of Fine Arts of Temple University for her BFA. During her college years, Shelley enjoyed working for four summers as a portrait artist on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. Portraiture has always been a consistent love of hers. Shelley moved to Massachusetts after college, where she taught elementary art in the Newton Public Schools for over 20 years. After moving to New Jersey, she started an elementary art program and taught art at a private Jewish day school in Edison. Now retired, Shelley enjoys drawing and painting and exploring new approaches and techniques, as well as exhibiting her work. She loves taking photos with her iPhone and uses her own photos for her paintings.
She has had numerous solo exhibits in area libraries – her latest solo exhibit at the Monroe Township Library. Her work has been displayed at the juried Grounds for Sculpture member’s exhibits and Municipal Buildings in Edison and South Brunswick. She has also won first and second place awards for her paintings in the Middlesex County and State Senior Art Shows.
