When East Meets West
Paintings by Nancy Hung

Nancy has been on an art journey between ink painting and oil painting exploring the vibrant interplay between Eastern and Western cultures.  This curated collection of artworks inspires one another across different cultures with the bond of love.

This exhibition embraces the spirit of life, distinctive energy and beauty of the Eastern and Western arts where each painting is an adventure of discovery, growth and creativity.  Through these paintings, Nancy has developed a deeper appreciation and a better sense of compassion, empathy, and humanity for people of different cultural backgrounds.  “When East Meets West” captures the essence of cultural exchange where harmony is created from diversity, which in turn flourishes a beautiful world.  Visitors are invited to reflect on the beauty of interconnectedness in an increasingly globalized world.

This exhibition promises to be a thought-provoking and visual celebration of unity in diversity, breaking boundaries and building bridges through art.  It also provides viewers with a unique experience of enjoyment with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the differences and connection between people and cultures.

Nancy believes all Eastern and Western cultures can co-exist peacefully in harmony, and together they enrich and better the world.  She believes that every piece of artwork has a life and spirit of its own that communicates directly with the viewers.  French sculptor Auguste Rodin once said, “There is never a lack of beauty in life, but a lack of eyes to discover beauty.”   Nancy feels there is never a lack of love among people, but a lack of hearts to express and feel love.

Artist Biography

Nancy has loved painting and drawing since her childhood. She had studied ink painting in her 20s and later started oil painting as well. Nancy never stopped painting no matter how busy she was managing a difficult balance between her professional career and family life. She now enjoys both styles of painting and feels total freedom and happiness journeying between the two. She feels that every painting is a new adventure of discovery, growth, and creativity. Through painting, she also has developed a deeper appreciation of her surroundings and a better sense of compassion, empathy, and humanity for nature and people. She believes that every piece of artwork has a life and spirit of its own that communicates directly with the viewers. She is convinced that artwork enhances the quality of people’s spiritual life and helps build a more beautiful world.

Nancy received her BBA and MBA from Bernard M. Baruch College and had worked in the telecommunications and computer technology industries for decades before retiring at the end of 2015 from her full-time job as the CFO and VP of Administrations of a multi-state high-tech company. She then worked as an independent management consultant for two years. In 2017, she decided to devote all her time to art, her lifelong passion, and to her dream of building an art gallery. With meticulous planning and tireless efforts, she successfully founded her own gallery, StudiOrchid, in 2021 and is now focusing on helping all her artists and herself to achieve higher realms and gain main-stream recognition.

The exhibit will open on February 2 and will be up through February 27.
The artist will host a reception in the gallery on Saturday, February 8th from 2pm to 4pm.
Also on February 8th, the artist will create samples of her art as part of Plainsboro Library’s Chinese New Year Celebrations between 6pm and 8pm.
