Welcome Back: Works by Audrey Jakab and Alejandro Berlin

In this body of work, Audrey Jakab used a combination of mostly everyday objects removed from their original setting. Many of the things she works with are old and reclaimed and others are new, yet ordinary, plastic toys or similar articles. Audrey finds beauty and character in these objects’ less-than-shiny-new state or their humble origins and appearance. She enjoys combining and transforming these objects into intimate assemblages that give them a new heartbeat. After Audrey decides how the separate pieces will be put together, they go to the workshop of her husband, Alejandro. The artist duo consults on each element and Alejandro figures out the most unobtrusive and skillful way to physically connect and enhance the separate components into their new form. Each of these pieces depended on the artists’ collaboration.

Jakab earned a BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art and a MFA at Yale University. A multidisciplinary artist with a focus on sculpture, she has participated in many group exhibitions and collaborates with her husband, Alejandro Berlin, when creating assemblages. Jakab has had solo shows at A.R.C. Gallery in Chicago, IL, the Metropolitan Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, and the Resource Exchange also in Philadelphia, PA. Jakab lives and works in West Windsor, New Jersey.

He has participated in many group exhibitions, some of which include: the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA, Artist Space and Franklin Furnace in New York City, and the Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, MA.
