South Asian Mental Health Myths and Misconceptions

Vasudev Makhija, MD, a psychiatrist, is the Founder and President of the non-profit organization SAMHIN, South Asian Mental Health Initiative and Network, a non-profit organization launched in 2014 to address the mental health needs of the South Asians in in the United States. He is Past-President of New Jersey Psychiatric Association.
Minoo Christian, MSW is trained as a social worker and works at Rutgers University-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School-Eric B. Chandler Health Center, where she provides programmatic and fiscal oversight of the Infectious Disease Department grants. Ms. Christian has volunteered with SAMHIN since 2018 on multiple projects, including facilitating workshops, writing grants and contributing as a Board Member.
Dr. Makhija and Ms. Christian will strive to dispel the many myths and misconceptions that surround mental health, especially with regards to South Asian residents of the United States.
