Dewey Decimal Book Spine Challenge
In this program:
- Participants learn that each book in the library is assigned a Dewey Decimal Number, which places it in one of the ten general subject areas of Dewey.
- This number is also known as a “call number” or a “spine label.”
Participants are presented with a stack of books, intentionally arranged out of order according to the Dewey Decimal System. Their task is to swiftly organize these books into their correct order based on their Dewey Decimal Numbers. The challenge encourages quick thinking, familiarity with the Dewey classification, and efficient book-finding skills. Participants race against the clock to arrange the books accurately within a specified time frame.
