Community Solar in India and Africa

A reliable electricity supply is essential to health, safety, and economic progress, but in many parts of the world access to dependable electric power is not part of daily life. The World Bank and others have explored ways of bringing small scale community solar projects to towns and villages that cannot get consistent power from government or other sources. In “Community Solar in India and Africa” we will report from the front lines on some of the problems inherent in these projects and some of the solutions that are available.

Our speaker, Bernard Tenenbaum, is an independent energy and regulatory consultant living in Plainsboro. He currently advises the World Bank on community solar projects in India and Africa. He previously served as a lead advisor to the World Bank on power sector reform and regulation projects in Brazil, China, India, Mozambique, Tanzania and Nigeria. Before joining the World Bank, he served as the Associate Director of the Office of Economic Policy at the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.  He has a Ph. D. in economics from the University of California at Berkeley.
