Covid Can’t Slow Us Down!
This past year, despite ongoing struggles with the Covid-19 pandemic, the Plainsboro Public Library persevered. We implemented innovative approaches and solutions to help keep the community engaged and safe while interacting with the library.

Radio Frequency Identification Project
We microchipped our entire collection with RFID Tags. This technology allows us to easily scan for missing books and speeds up the check-in and out process with bulk scanning.

Contactless Self-Checkout Machines
Our Self-Checkout Machines are intuitive, quick, convenient, and contact-free. Patrons take advantage of our RFID technology by scanning all their books at once.

Paperless Library Card Registration
Applying for a library card has never been easier! New library users can now fill out our library card registration form at a designated workstation.

HVAC Air Filtration
As an added health and safety measure, the library added a UV light-filtering system to purify the air in the library and decrease the risk of COVID exposure.

Safety Protocols
We’ve maintained our mask mandate since reopening the library to ensure the safety of patrons and staff. Hand sanitizer and cleansing wipes are also available throughout the library.

Capira Curbside Pickup
Capira is a digital application that seamlessly integrates with the library’s database allowing patrons easier access to curbside scheduling and pick up.
*Capira retired post-COVID in October 2023

Digital Resources
We keep expanding our collection of eBooks, audiobooks, digital magazines, and streaming services to meet the needs of library users at home.

Virtual Programming
We’re continuing to incorporate virtual programming into our calendar, offering a safe platform for teen leaders and community members to interact with the library audience.

Digital Media Redesign
We are consistently updating our website to be more accessible and user-friendly, improving our visibility on social media, and increasing our eNewsletter reach.
As the new year swiftly approaches, the Plainsboro Public Library is looking to the future as we hope to complete our Youth Engagement Services (YES) project to better support children from birth through high school at the library.
The YES project will see the Youth Services floor transformed into a space that facilitates experiences and supports critical library services—from its renovation to the Department’s projected programming and future collections. This project re-imagines the Youth Services Department to meet the needs of all ages, 0-18. It features robust digital infrastructure, adaptable spaces, appropriately sized furniture, and engaging tactile experiences for toddlers. Patron experience, inclusivity, digital resources, and environmental responsibility are all strategic themes that have influenced the guiding principles informing the proposed integral design.
Learn more about the YES project and help support our goals of fostering inclusivity, learning, and connection for every individual who walks through our doors.
