Show of Pastel Paintings to Open at Plainsboro Library Gallery

An exhibit of work by Monroe artist Audrey Roth — “Inspirations – Captured Moments” – will open on Saturday, May 7, in the Plainsboro Public Library gallery.

Roth, who describes her work as “painting with pastels,” will show landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and interiors. People paint for various reasons, she notes. “I paint images that inspire me.” She uses pastels, she says, because they give her “an ability to blend colors in a way that no other medium can do.” She plans to include about 25 works in the Plainsboro show.

Roth retired five years ago from a successful career in retail packaging and design.  A graduate of New York City’s High School of Music & Art and an art degree graduate from the City College of New York, she taught art for several years in Hightstown elementary schools.

Since retirement, Roth has exhibited three times in the NJ Senior Citizen Juried Art Contest show and the Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission Juried Art Show. A volunteer at Grounds for Sculpture, she had work in its 2020 Member Musings Juried Art Show. She has shown her work in several local galleries, and she had a solo exhibition at the Monroe Township Library gallery last summer.

In addition to painting almost every day, Roth also participates in ongoing classes, workshops, and study groups. “All my life, all I ever wanted to do was paint,” she says. “Five years ago, I was finally able to fully indulge my creative urge.”

“Inspirations – Captured Moments” will remain at the Plainsboro Library Gallery through Saturday, June 25.
