Abstract Impressionism
Art by Patrick Goldsmith

Delving into the wonders & mysteries of our existence is the purpose of both pure science & pure art. I heard that 1st from a famous actor. I have always seen that unity of purpose as a great blessing. When the arts & sciences join, with expectations of discovering truths; and displaying them for anyone to share in, only good things are likely to happen. A wonderful aspect of most of the arts we enjoy is their element of “unreality”. The good stuff acts as a catalyst to bounce our consciousness to new realms of thought. Some art and much of science has catapulted our world into a present that seems futuristic in its’ transformative, and seemingly boundless innovations. I like to think my art is grounded in a respectful gratitude for our natural world’s willing ability to give us our existence even as we, as a species, treat it so badly.

When asked to categorize my non-figurative efforts, it seems Abstract/Impressionist fits best, as I’m usually making an effort to give my impression of an abstract idea. Many of these are influenced by Taoist concepts or concerns for our shared biosphere. I also offer many of my landscapes done over 30 years of intermittent travels. From the Adirondacks to Singapore. There are also a few done along the Lenape Trail here in Plainsboro.

More than 50 years of creative effort has flowed through me. (I truly maintain, empirically believe that the good stuff just flows through you as inspiration). I assume that is much the same with scientist’s inspirations too. In any case I’m very happy to have this chance for sharing some of my efforts to delve into our shared mysteries. With many thanks to Plainsboro’s Public Library.
